New CASA director calling for volunteers

York County's new director of the Court Appointed Special Advocate program, Ann Elicker, is looking for "the missing piece of the puzzle."
That is, a way to attract a more diverse roster of volunteers to look after the legal needs of abused or neglected children who find themselves in the judicial system. Children in such situations are removed from their homes and placed in other safe, permanent homes or returned to their homes if the adverse situation can be corrected. Read More...
KATwalk for CASA
Students rocked the runway and raised $2,000 to help area children during the second-annual KATwalk for CASA. Hosted by Kappa Alpha Theta (KAT), the April 21 fashion show/benefit sale featured student performances, a silent auction, a clothing/accessories sale and runway walks by volunteer models. Fall 2010 Graduation
The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program of York County is proud to announce the addition of five new volunteers to advocate for abused and/or neglected children. On November 11, 2010 sisters of Kappa Alpha Theta from Bucknell University joined the PA CASA Association Board of Directors for lunch and presented Executive Director Dennis Hockensmith with a check for $500, the product of their second annual KICKS for CASA Kickball tournament. They also delivered event T-shirts and activity notebooks for children to enjoy while waiting for court. Child advocacy program expands in Somerset Co.

The Cambria/Somerset Co CASA TREE.
CASA is a program of Beginnings, Inc. headquartered in Johnstown. The tree was built by the spouse of a board member. On the last day of training of the first class of the combined counties, new and active volunteers glued 402 leaves to represent all of the children given a voice by a CASA volunteer since the inception of the program. At a time when budgets are being cut and the number of abuse and neglect cases is growing, volunteers are helping children through rough times.
A little-known volunteer program helps Cumberland County Judge Ed Guido sleep at night.
When he has to make wrenching decisions about whether to allow abused children to stay with their
biological parents, he turns to volunteers with the Court Appointed Special Advocates, or CASA.

PA CASA & National CASA to host Training Event
June 19th and 20th
National CASA’s Training of the Facilitator Workshop will be presented by Terene Bennett, National CASA Association Training Specialist and Anita Brewster, Program Director for Cumberland County CASA on June 19th and 20th at the Central Pennsylvania Conference Center in Summerdale PA. Two dozen CASA volunteer trainers and trainer candidates will join with 10 of their peers from four contiguous states to refine their skills in delivering the NCASA training curriculum in keeping with National CASA standards and the PA Juvenile Act.
